Why this order

Applications first, interviews second, portfolio last — which is the opposite of how people usually approach it, and deliberate. Most people polish a portfolio nobody has asked for while sending generic applications that never get read. The sequence here front-loads the thing that actually gets responses.

The tailoring project is the centre of the track. Everything before it is preparation and everything after builds on the material it produces.

How long it takes

Four to six hours, and it is worth doing against real vacancies rather than hypothetical ones. The exercises produce applications you can send, not practice ones you throw away.

How you'll know you're done

You have finished when you have a repeatable process that takes a job posting and produces a tailored application in under twenty minutes, and when you have used it on something real. A process you have not tested under time pressure is a plan, not a process.
